Five fun games to play with coast kids dive toys

1. Treasure hunt

Turn your backyard pool into a deep-sea treasure cove. 

How to play: Toss several sinking toys into the pool and let them settle at the bottom. Kids can then dive in to 'collect treasure' one by one. Add extra fun by assigning point values to different toys or racing against the clock. 

Great for: confidence-building underwater, counting and imaginative pirate play.

2. Colour match dive

A perfect game for younger swimmers learning their colours.

How to play: Scatter a mix of sinking toys into an ankle deep baby pool, or for bigger kids a standard pool. Call out a colour and participants must find and retrieve that one. You can also add buckets to the edge of the pool for kids to sort by colour. 

Great for: colour recognition, motor skills and underwater exploration.

3. Relay rescue

How to play: Divide into two teams. Each player must dive down to collect one sinking toy, then swim back to tag the next team mate. The first team to rescue all their toys win.

4. Mystery grab

A surprise every time. 

How to play: With eyes closed, kids duck down and grab a toy without knowing which one they will get. Once they surface they can describe the shape and colour.

Great for: sensory exploration, memory and giggles all round.

5. Race to grab

Fastest kid wins.

How to play: two kids face off to get the dive toy first. Both start in the water facing the pool edge, while a parent throws the sinking in the pool. On go, both kids turn and swim to race to find and grab the toy. First back to the wall with toy in hand wins. 

Great for: speed, swimming and duck diving.
